Credit Union Development Educators to Focus on CU Philosophy, History in August 26th Event (7/28/2010)

North Carolina's Credit Union Development Educators (CUDEs) have combined forces to produce a series of educational sessions on the history and philosophy of credit unions. The next session, which is scheduled for Thursday, August 26th from 10 am to 3 pm at the NCCUL offices in Greensboro, will explore the rich history of credit unions with front line staff and newer employees in the NC credit union movement.

This day of fun and learning is intended to help attendees understand what makes credit unions special and unique – and how they can apply that understanding in their career. "The NC Development Educators have worked very hard in the last several months to develop this event and recruit an all-star slate of speakers for the day," said NCCUL President/CEO John Radebaugh. He added that this event, and others planned later in the year were vitally important. "With so many credit union members struggling as they never have before to make ends meet, understanding the role that credit unions play in serving their members is more important now than ever before."

The NC CUDEs are also working together to produce a two day event in November. Scheduled for November 8-10, this event will be an intensive focus on the credit union philosophy and principles. This event will be headlined by Larry Blanchard of CUNA Mutual Group and Lois Kitsch of the National Credit Union Foundation. For more information on the November event, please click here.

Featured speakers for the August 26th event include:

Matt Davis of the Filene Research Institute. Matt will provide attendees with a primer on the history of the cooperative and credit union movements in the US and worldwide.

Jeff Hardin of the NC Credit Union League, who will take a look at the history and structure of the NC credit union movement.

Mike Banks of State Employees’ Credit Union, who will share the story of Latino Community Credit Union. You’ll hear how and why credit unions worked cooperatively to create Latino, which is today one of the fastest growing credit unions in the world.

Judy Tharp of Piedmont Advantage Credit Union and the Vice Chair of the Carolinas Credit Union Foundation will show you the impacts of credit union philanthropy in North Carolina through the programs of the CCUF.

Genice DeCorte of Greensboro Health Care Credit Union, who is the keynote speaker, will lead an interactive session that will address what it really means to work at a credit union.

These speakers are part of what promises to be a fun and interactive look at what makes credit union work rewarding! This special event is a must for people who are early in their credit union careers - especially the front line staff who work closely with credit union members!

The League is grateful for the assistance of North Carolina's Credit Union Development Educators in producing this event.
